At The Lamp Repair Shop, we are committed to recycling and lowering our carbon footprint. 24 years ago, this shop produced two 50 gallon trash bags a month! Now, after years of tweaking our practices, we are down to two, five gallon pails a month! Almost everything that comes into this shop gets recycled. We used to list the things we recycled here, but it is now more efficient to list what we cannot:
|
 | | Vinyl coating from lamp cords(we remove the copper)
|
 | | Wood scraps
|
 | | Cast zinc and/or white metal
|
 | | Phenolic scraps from sockets.
|
 | | Plated metal parts |
| | |
Everything else gets either re-used or recycled! And for every item that gets re-used, another item need not
be made. This is our commitment, and we are sticking with it.
We made a huge discovery here a while back. The retail shop and studio were illuminated with eight foot long
florescent tubes(they came with the building). The light coming from those fixtures didn't exactly highlight the
vintage and one-of-a-kind lamps found here, and throwing those burned out tubes away was a disaster. So
we turned them off, completely. The store and work spaces are now lit with a combination of incandescent
bulbs and compact florescent bulbs. We use the very lamps we restore and sell to light the studio. Not only
has the ambiance improved a billion percent, we knocked $60.00 a month off the electric bill! Very cool.
