Have you ever taken a close look around your home or workshop to see where all your stuff comes from? I realized recently that my studio is like a United Nations of equipment and parts. Tools from all over the world have been gathered on my various workbenches; many are over a hundred years old, some just a few years old, but all of them useful to me as a maker. I personally do not collect tools for the sake of collecting, though I see the appeal of doing so. For me, the tools need to have a use if they are to take up space in my shop, and even though some of these tools are so specialized I only use them once or twice a year, their quality and engineering make them a pleasure to hold and use, if only once in a while.
